Cryopreserved Enterocytes

Enterocytes are responsible for first-pass metabolism and are the key cell type for assessing oral bioavailability. With CYP3A4 activity comparable to that of human hepatocytes, enterocytes are a useful in vitro test system for the investigation of intestinal drug metabolism, drug-drug interactions, and toxicity assessments.

Our cryopreserved enterocytes maintain their enzyme activity after thawing and have been shown to produce clinically-observed phenomena, such as dose- and time-dependent inhibition of CYP3A4 by grapefruit juice. [Download our poster here] This test system offers the reliability of fresh cells with all of the convenience to store and use them to suit your scheduling needs.

Animal enterocytes can be accompanied by hepatocytes isolated from the same animal, allowing scientists an opportunity to investigate the impact that first-pass effects may have on a compound in both test systems in vitro.
